JUNE 2018 – KEN SALAZAR

Name: Ken Salazar
Age: 57
Occupation: Mgmt. Sales – Kraft Heinz Foods
When did you first start CrossFit? Late July 2017

Tell us about your sports & fitness background.
High school athlete; soccer, football, rodeo (Bull Riding) until age 21 at the Univ. of TX. A&M. Later years, weekend warrior (Soccer) in my 30s!

How did you first get into CrossFit? How did it go?
My son Carl started doing CF 3 months after finishing his collegiate football years at TU. I watched him develop in the sport of CrossFit. Carl would always encourage me to give CrossFit a try. One day he strongly suggested for me to try CrossFit at CF Eclipse and told me they had a beginner’s class coming up. It was intimidating at first; however, as relationships at CF Eclipse developed so did my confidence and my drive to improve.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit?
Lost 21 lbs. and 5 inches off my waist, increased energy level, and continued interest in taking care of myself as I age.

What impact has CrossFit had on your life? CF has given me the confidence that physically all things are in reach if you are willing to do the work. Example: recently my wife and I ran in the OKC Memorial Marathon, the ½ marathon. Without doing CF that would have never happened for me.

What is your advice for people getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit? My advice would be to throw out any negative opinions you may have heard about CF and just give it a try. Let the results you get from CF be your guide and deciding factors. I believe, if so done, it could be a positive driving force in your life.

What are your hobbies, interests, and other talents outside of CrossFit? Snow skiing, waterfowl hunting, turkey hunting, fishing, sharing time and building new memories with my kids, my wife Brenda, and most of all my grandson Grey!

What’s the wallpaper of your phone? Now, a pic my grandson Grey and myself after the Murph Challenge. He’s my biggest fan so I must have that!
