When did you first start CrossFit?

Tell us about your sports & fitness background.

I grew up swimming since the Age of 6 and was also a dancer (mom taught Tap at Miss Shelly’s School of Dance). Later I swam Division 1 at Texas Christian University. I got into powerlifting out of college and still have a few WR on the bench press. I also participate in triathlons and completed an Ultra Ironman in September of 2016.

How did you first get into CrossFit? How did it go?

I just came off an Ironman and ankle injury. I wanted to stay in shape and challenge myself in a different way than long bike rides and I loved lifting weights.

I had a great experience in the beginner’s class meeting new friends who were in the same boat I was in. I was definitely intimidated and humbled. CrossFit is nothing like powerlifting. I loved the plyometrics aspect of CrossFit. Our beginner’s class was the best! Shout out to Tiney, BJ, Lisa, & Kalee who were all in the same class and have stuck it out with me!

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit?

I have definitely gained more muscle and lost body fat!

What impact has CrossFit had on your life?

I have met some great friends and some amazing athletes. This is a place I can go to work out the stresses of everyday life and challenge myself to do better each day.

What is your advice for people getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit?

Everyone can do it! I have suffered through injuries and still modify workouts for my shoulder. The great part about CrossFit is there is something for everyone.

What are your hobbies, interests, and other talents outside of CrossFit?

I love to participate in open water swimming. I have an awesome rescue dog named Ellie who I spend time with and two amazing nephews I love to chase around.

What’s the wallpaper of your phone?

My nephews playing with my dog.
