When did you first start CrossFit? August 2020


Tell us about your sports & fitness background.
I was always active and enjoyed playing sports growing up. I played tennis in high school and was on the row team (coxswain) my freshman year in college. After I got married and started having kids, I became less active and honestly got to a point where I wasn’t exercising or taking care of myself at all. I was worn out all the time with work, family and taking care of 2 kids. So, for about 16 years, I used this excuse to never exercise.


How did you first get into CrossFit? How did it go?
I would have never started CrossFit if it wasn’t for my awesome husband Eric. He has been a member of CFE for 2 years and I watched it totally change his life. Since he started, he has become so dedicated to getting healthy and strong. Seeing this motivated me… so I agreed to go to Sweating with my Sweetheart for Valentine’s Day, in 2018! I could barely walk the next week. I was intimidated with the word CrossFit, but two years later, I decided to give it another try because I knew I had to do something to keep up with my husband. Also, due to COVID, I have been working from home since March and needed to get myself out of the house. So, I went to my first class in August and somehow survived and even left with a smile on my face. I came back the next day and have been a member for 2 months now. To my surprise, I absolutely love it!


What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit?
I can tell I’m getting stronger every day. I have gained muscle and have lost almost 2 inches in my waistline. I am also learning how to count my macros and eat healthier foods that will help fuel my body for my workouts. I feel great overall and I am in the best shape I’ve ever been in my whole life. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next 2 months and even in the next 2 years!


What impact has CrossFit had on your life?
CrossFit has already made a huge impact on my life. I am now a healthier, more confident, and stronger person, both physically and mentally. I have met so many amazing people here at CFE. Everyone is so friendly and encouraging. The coaches are phenomenal! I had no idea what I was doing at first and didn’t know the difference between a dumbbell and a barbell. They are so patient and modify the WODs to fit me. They challenge and motivate me to reach my potential every day. It’s a great community and I look forward to coming to class!


What is your advice for people getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit?
I know CrossFit may seem intimidating, especially for beginners, but don’t let that scare you like it did me. I wish I would have started way earlier in my life. It’s never too late to get started! If I can do it, anyone can!


What are your hobbies, interests, and other talents outside of CrossFit?
I enjoy spending time with my family, watching my daughters play soccer, taking long walks with our dog (Okie), taking photos, and shopping, especially at estate sales.


What’s the wallpaper of your phone?
Both of my daughters, Isabel and Emma who are 15 and 16 years old.
