Who are you outside Eclipse?
I’m the mini-van driving, snack-toting, carpooling coach’s wife with a baby in tow. I’m also a teacher and I enjoy volunteering through my church.
When did you first start training at CrossFit Eclipse?
I’ve been at CFE since 2018. I was part of the best beginner’s class in the history of CFE.
What is your sports & fitness background?
My sports and fitness background was mostly non-existent before CFE. I had tried Jazzercise and jogging, but never found something I was excited to do.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)?
I’ve lost fat and gained muscle but I’m most pleased with my quality of life. I had dealt with asthma and other respiratory issues that had left me sick for months at a time, relying on multiple prescriptions for relief. Since starting CrossFit, I’ve noticed that I don’t deal with these issues as often and, when they do occur, I recover faster with fewer medications.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit Eclipse moments?
My favorite moment was during my first Open. For 18.2a, athletes were working toward their 1 rep max clean. We had laid out the weights and were systematically increasing little by little, but time was winding down and Aaron yelled at the people adding weight to throw more on; they did and I set a PR!
What goal are you currently working towards?
I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and have had to scale basically everything but walking. I am working towards being released to participate in this year’s Open in some capacity and then the Festivus Games next year; I just haven’t told my doctor yet.
Any advice for people just getting started or new to CrossFit?
Whether you’re new to exercising or you’re an award-winning athlete, CrossFit is designed in a way that everyone can improve. Keep track of your PRs and scores so you can see your progress. I highly recommend using the app the box provides so you can interact with others. I love seeing PRs and giving fist bumps!
